Carroll Lance Memorial Scholarship In 1998, the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida established a scholarship at the University of Florida - Gainesville. The scholarship was named after Mr. Carroll Lance, who served as the Association's Executive Director from 1967 to 1996. Carroll was instrumental in ensuring adequate funding for highways in the State of Florida and was an important part of the Florida's highway industry for almost 30 years. A $50,000 endowed scholarship fund was established in 1997through donations received from asphalt contractors and a wide range of transportation industry friends. Several scholarships will be awarded each year for Civil Engineering / Construction Management undergraduate students at approximately $1000 each. These scholarships are presented at the Annual Asphalt Conference in September. CRITERIA FOR AWARD: Preference given to Florida residents. Must be a U.S. Citizen attending the University of Florida. Must be in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with an interest in asphalt. Students must have taken or plan to take a course in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Technology. The program will also utilize standard Citizens Scholarship Foundation of America (CSFA) recipient selection procedures, including the consideration of past academic performance and future potential, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of career and educational aspirations and goals.
