The Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida (ACAF) held their Annual Excellence in Pavement Awards to honor projects completed within the previous calendar year that upholds why Florida's roads are continuously rated the best amongst truck drivers.
ACAF has several award categories: A.P. Bolton Award, Urban Resurfacing Award, Rural Resurfacing Award, Roads and Streets (FDOT) Award, Roads and Streets (Non-FDOT) Award, and Special Projects Award both on District and Statewide Levels throughout Florida. The A.P. Bolton Award, named in honor of the charter members who have done so much for the industry and whose reputation for quality work is his hallmark, is the Association’s highest award on projects that have over 30,000 tons of asphalt. The Resurfacing Award is the Association’s next highest award and has both Urban and Rural categories which use more than 10,000 tons of asphalt. Through the Roads and Streets Award, ACAF also recognizes quality on smaller State, City or County roads and streets construction which use at least 5,000 tons of asphalt. Special Projects are considered to be Airfield Paving, Race Tracks, Landfill Liners and the like.
Executive Director Jim Warren notes “These are the best of the best and provide an opportunity for these companies to be recognized among their peers for the dedication to quality and attention to detail it takes to win one of these awards.” The 2010 Award winners underwent two different vigorous rating procedures and were announced at the Association's Annual Convention on June 19, 2010, during the Awards banquet. APAC Southeast, Inc. received two Statewide Awards: The Statewide A.P. Bolton Award for their project on SR 93 (I-75) in Suwannee County, and the Statewide Rural Resurfacing Award for their project on US17 in Hardee County. David Church, Executive Vice President of APAC Southeast, Inc. “We are extremely proud of our hardworking employees who perform their jobs in such a professional manner. Our employees endeavor to provide quality roadways to the taxpayers of Florida, while holding safety of the traveling public and the workers on site in the highest regard. It is an honor for these men and women to be recognized by the industry as setting the standard for excellence, and the company is truly grateful to them.”

Community Asphalt earned the Statewide Urban Resurfacing Statewide Award for their project on SR 817, from Pines Blvd. (SR 820) to just south of Griffin Road in Broward County. Ignacio Halley, President of Community Asphalt, described his company’s achievement: “High quality is a testament to great teamwork.” Congratulations to all the winners of this year’s competition and all the companies that worked hard to help Florida achieve the 2010 Top Roads award in the U.S. reported by Overdrive magazine.
