Who Can Participate

  • Any undergraduate or graduate student at Auburn University

  • Students must be a member (or sign up to become a member) of the AAPT Student Chapter at Auburn University

  • Students must register online in advance


Pitch Requirements

  • Time Limit:

    • 2 minutes for the pitch (Shark Tank–style)

    • 2 minutes for judge Q&A

  • Content: Pitches must relate to the asphalt or pavement construction industry, including:

    • Innovative paving construction techniques

    • New mix designs or materials

    • Asphalt performance testing methods

    • Asphalt equipment concepts

    • Process improvements or creative solutions

  • Creativity Encouraged:
    Ideas do not need to exist or be technically feasible today, think outside the box.

  • Goal:
    Convince the judges to “invest” in your idea.


Presentation Tips

  • Structure your pitch around:

    • Problem: What industry challenge are you trying to solve?

    • Idea: Your innovation or solution

    • Impact: Why it matters (efficiency, cost, sustainability, safety, etc.)

    • Call to Action: Why judges should invest in your idea


Judges

  • 3–5 industry professionals from the state of Florida

  • Judging criteria may include (but are not limited to):

    • Insight & Innovation

    • Professionalism

    • Charisma & Engagement

    • Creativity & Humor


Prizes

Students who successfully pitch and convince the judges to “invest” may be eligible for cash prizes:

  • 1st Place: $300

  • 2nd Place: $200

  • 3rd Place: $100


Dinner

  • Dinner will be provided for event attendees

  • Space is limited to:

    • Judges

    • NCAT staff

    • Participating students

    • AAPT Student Chapter leadership
