Lifetime Achievement Award
Established in 2015 by the ACAF Board of Directors, this award honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the asphalt industry in Florida and the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida. Recipients are recognized annually at the ACAF Convention in June.
2025

Andrew Patterson (A.P.) Bolton
A.P. “Pat” Bolton was a founding member of the Asphalt Contractors Association and remained an active member from 1957 until his retirement in 1971. Bolton moved to Florida in the early 1940s to assist in repaving Navy airfields during World War II. In 1946, he acquired Macasphalt Corporation and went on to lead many significant paving projects across the state, including the original asphalt paving of Daytona Speedway in 1958–1959 and its resurfacing in 1979. Known throughout the industry as “Mr. Asphalt,” Bolton earned a reputation for his hands-on leadership style and unwavering commitment to quality. He served as Chairman of the Specifications Committee for 14 years and was later recognized as an ACA Honorary Lifetime Member and inducted into the FTBA Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2006. His legacy continues today through the prestigious A.P. “Pat” Bolton Award, recognizing excellence in asphalt paving in Florida.
2024

Wayne Evans
Wayne Evans had a distinguished career in the asphalt industry and held numerous leadership roles at both national and state levels. He served as chairman of the National Asphalt Pavement Association, where he was instrumental in initiating the industry's support of the Smithsonian Institution. He played a key role in creating the successful World of Asphalt meeting and trade show and was pivotal in introducing Warm Mix Asphalt technology in the United States.
2021

Don Sollie
Don served as President of ACAF from 1991–1993. He was the initiating President for Couch Construction in Tampa. Don was the Regional President of APAC in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama for over 12 years. During his tenure at Couch, Don made significant acquisitions that laid the footprint for the statewide presence of Preferred Materials.
2019

Bill Bachschmidt
Bill’s construction career began in 1966 with Houdaille Industries in Hollywood, Florida. He later led D.A.B.’s entrance into the asphalt industry and ensured the company remained a leader in quality throughout the industry.

Mike Horan
Mike started his career at Ajax Paving Industries in Michigan and later moved to Florida to establish Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, eventually becoming president and owner.

Robert Lopez
Robert started working at General Asphalt at the age of 22 and worked his way up to President at 34, helping lead the company into a major South Florida industry presence.
2017

Dave Drehmer
Dave worked at MacAsphalt, APAC, Florida Rock Industries, EA Mariani Asphalt Company, and later as a consultant until retiring in 2016. He served on numerous ACAF committees and task forces.

Mike Slade
Mike served in leadership roles throughout Vecellio Companies and eventually became President of Ranger before retiring in 2012. He also served as ACAF President.
2016

T.H. “Ted” McRae
Ted spent over 61 years in the industry, eventually serving as President of Anderson Columbia Company. He also served as ACAF President and remained active as a consultant after retirement.
