Ellie Hayes wasn’t actively seeking a new career opportunity, but when the right one came along, she knew it was time for a change. In December 2024, Ellie joined the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida (ACAF) as the Office Administrator, bringing a blend of financial expertise, disaster relief experience, and fresh enthusiasm for creativity.

“When this opportunity came up, it felt like the perfect fit,” Ellie said. “David Allain [Technical Director at ACAF], who’s been my Bible study leader for the past year, mentioned the opening to my fiancé, and everything just clicked.”

Her transition to ACAF was serendipitous, and Ellie is eager to dive into her new role, where she will handle a range of responsibilities, from managing membership to overseeing accounts payable and receivable. But it’s the chance to work on social media and website management that really excites her. “I’m excited to dive into those areas and bring some creativity to ACAF’s presence in the industry,” she said.

Before joining ACAF, Ellie worked as a governmental consultant for the Florida Division of Emergency Management, where she managed disaster relief projects, audited invoices, and ensured that funds were properly allocated. Though she’s well-versed in finance and numbers, Ellie is eager to embrace new challenges. “I’m really looking forward to doing more hands-on work and getting involved with the ACAF community through events and social media,” she shared

Ellie’s background also includes a fun and unexpected chapter. While at Florida State University, she was part of the school’s circus program, performing acro-routines and stacking on top of fellow performers. “It was kind of like a dance routine, but a little cooler,” she said with a laugh. “I never thought I’d do it, but it was an amazing experience.”

Though she’s still getting acquainted with the asphalt industry, Ellie is already impressed by the people she’s met. “The people in this industry really care about what they do, and I’m excited to be around that energy,” she said. “I’m looking forward to learning more and seeing how I can contribute.”

Outside of work, Ellie is an avid CrossFit competitor and shares a close bond with her twin brother, who works as a consultant in Tallahassee. “We have a lot in common, which is fun,” she said. “It’s nice to have that shared background.”

With her mix of financial expertise, creative energy, and enthusiasm for new challenges, Ellie is ready to make an impact at ACAF. “I’m excited to contribute and learn more every day,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what comes next.”
